How do I drop my car off overnight?

59 Auto Repair has contactless options for dropping off your vehicle. If you get here after hours, we have an overnight drop box located on the left side of the front door. There are envelops and pens located inside the box. Simply fill out the envelop, put your keys inside, leave the envelop on the shelf, and when the door closes the keys will fall inside the box. Then, we will get your keys out of the box the next morning when we open.

How do I pick up my vehicle after hours?

If you need to pick up your vehicle after hours, we have a lockbox that we can use for you to pick up your keys while we are closed. We can take payment over the phone and put your keys inside the box located on the left side of the front door. Each box is locked with a unique 4 digit code specifically for you. When you get here, go to the number box assigned to you by the service advisor, put in your unique 4 digit code, turn the dial, and your keys will be inside the box.

How can I schedule an appointment?

You can schedule an appointment one of two ways. Simply call us at (815)254-9959 and we will schedule your appointment. Otherwise, you can schedule an appointment.

What kind of preventative vehicle maintenance services do you recommend on my car to make it last longer?

59 Auto Repair recommends changing your oil regularly with a routine maintenance inspection to help your vehicle last a long time. It is cheap insurance to keep your engine running great and last a long time. As part of your vehicle’s regular maintenance schedule, the cabin air filter should be replaced every 30,000 miles or by factory specifications. The coolant exchange should be performed every 5 years or 50,000 miles. The brake fluid exchange should be performed every 3 years or 36,000 miles. The power steering fluid exchange should be performed every 5 years or 60,000 miles. The transmission fluid exchange should be performed every 5 years or 60,000 miles. Performing the recommended vehicle maintenance services will help your vehicle run better for longer.

I have a new vehicle. Can you perform my factory recommended maintenance?

Yes, 59 Auto Repair can perform any factory recommended maintenance services on your vehicle to keep your factory warranty intact.

Can you do my factory recall on my vehicle?

No, all recall work must be performed by the dealership.

Does your shop do vehicle inspections?

Yes, 59 Auto Repair performs digital inspections on every vehicle. Each vehicle gets a safety and maintenance inspection as part of our routine car care checks.

How can I see my digital inspection?

After the inspection on your vehicle is completed, we will send it to you. We can either text the digital vehicle inspection or we can email it over. A service advisor will call you after sending over your digital inspection to go over what the mechanic found.

Do you perform used car inspections?

Yes, 59 Auto Repair has a comprehensive vehicle inspection that we recommend performing on any used vehicle before you buy it! It is a thorough inspection that takes about an hour to complete once it is inside the shop. The technician will go over the vehicle to help find any potential issues before you buy the car to give you peace of mind.

How can I get an oil change?

59 Auto Repair does oil changes by appointment. Oil changes typically take 45 minutes to an hour to complete. You are welcome to wait in our lobby for your oil change. Call us at (815)254-9959 or click on the make appointment button above to make your appointment today!

How often should I rotate my tires?

Tires should be rotated every 5000 to 6000 miles. The simplest way to remember is to rotate the tires every other oil change if you are using convention oil or every oil change if you are using synthetic oil.

When should I replace my timing belt?

The timing belt should be replaced at your factory recommended mileage. If your vehicle does not have a recommended mileage, we recommend replacing the timing belt every 100,000 miles.

Is it necessary to replace my timing belt?

Yes, it is necessary to replace your timing belt at the recommended mileage. If the timing belt breaks it can cause catastrophic engine damage. The cost of repairing an engine after the timing belt breaks if much greater than the cost of replacing the timing belt for maintenance.

What does it mean if my check engine light is on?

There are many reasons why the check engine light can come on. When one of the vehicle’s engine performance or emission sensors fails, the check engine light will come on. If the check engine light is flashing, the vehicle should not be driven. This is the vehicle’s way of telling you that something is malfunction that can cause engine damage. If the light is on solid, the vehicle should be inspected as soon as possible. The technician will start by pulling a code which will give the system that is malfunctioning. They will then perform diagnostics to determine which component in the system is needed.

What should I do if my car is overheating?

When the vehicle is overheating, you should pull over and turn the car off as soon as it is safe to do so. Overheating is a very serious problem and can cause engine damage. Do not attempt to check the coolant level until the vehicle has had enough time to cool off as hot fluid can cause severe burns. We do not recommend driving a vehicle that is overheating and instead recommend having the vehicle towed into 59 Auto Repair.

When should you change your oil?

If you are using conventional or semi-synthetic oil, the oil should be changed every 3000 miles. If you are using a full synthetic oil the oil should be changed every 5000 miles. We recommend going by the sticker in your window over the light on the dash for your oil change intervals.

How do I know if my battery is bad?

Vehicle batteries typically last about 5 years. A technician can check your battery for the cold cranking amps as well as the reserve capacity to determine if the battery needs to be replaced.

What are the benefits to using synthetic oil?

Synthetic oil does not break down like a conventional oil does.

When do I replace my spark plugs?

Spark plug replacement should be done based on your vehicle manufacturer's recommendation. A typical tune up will include spark plugs and either ignition wires or spark plug boots. If the plenum is removed to perform the tune up, the plenum gasket should also be replaced. Call us today to see when your spark plugs should be replaced!

How often should the air filter be replaced?

The air filter should be checked every oil change for dirt and debris. If the air filter is dirty, it should be replaced. This is done by a visual inspection of the air filter.
